Clare Ellis’ inspiration and talent come from her mother who for over 60 years produced stunning landscapes of her beloved Savannah, Hilton Head, Bluffton and Highlands, N.C. Clare’s paintings reflect these same venues as well as her travels worldwide.
Her works include painting in oil with palette knife and brushes as well as watercolor journaling. Her free and creative use of color brings the world to life and emphasizes her experiences in nature and often the poignancy of old shanties, buildings and barns.
Clare studied initially with Zola Delburn in Savannah and palette knife artist Jane Smithers in Cashiers, N.C. However, she credits Morgan Kuhn whose patience and encouragement brought maturity and focus to her works. In an effort to strengthen her drawing and painting skills she has also participated in many workshops, including those with Chris Groves, Mark Horton, Bill Farnsworth, tonalist Nancy Bush, and Doug Corkern.
Clare’s works can be seen at the Downstairs Gallery in Savannah, Ga. where she has been featured in several showings.
